  76. POST INSTALLATION INFORMATION
  77. -----------------------------
  78. Once the basic program installation is complete, the Professional Carrier
  79. program will automatically load and configure itself. This can be a
  80. lengthy process but only the very first time the program is loaded.
  81. Following that, the program will load much faster.
  82.  
  83. To start the program in the future, you should switch to the subdirectory
  84. where you installed the program (i.e. \PROCARR), type PROCARR, and then
  85. press [ENTER].  If the program is the shareware/evaluation version, a
  86. shareware and registration reminder screen will appear.  After reading
  87. this screen carefully, press any key to proceed. A title and copyright
  88. screen will be displayed, along with the program Main Menu.
  89.  
  90. Please refer to the files WHATSNEW.xxx files (where "xxx" represents the
  91. product release version number) for information regarding new program
  92. changes, features, and enhancements.

  95. QUICK START
  96. -----------
  97. In order to make FULL use of this program, you will need to read the
  98. manual, which is supplied as the file MANUAL.TXT. However, to get started
  99. quickly just to see what the program looks like, simply switch to the
  100. subdirectory where you have installed the program files (i.e. CD
  101. PROCARR), type PROCARR and press [ENTER].  The program contains
  102. context-sensitive Help which you can call by pressing the [F1] key.
  103.  
  104. COLOR/MONOCHROME MONITORS
  105. -------------------------
  106. This program will check to see if you have a color video card installed
  107. in your computer. If it finds one, it will automatically set the screen
  108. display to the color settings. If it finds a monochrome video card, it
  109. will automatically set the screen display to the monochrome settings. If
  110. you are using a color card with a monochrome monitor, the program may not
  111. display properly. However, you can go back to the DOS prompt and restart
  112. the program using the command  PROCARR M  to restart the program in
  113. forced monochrome mode.

  115. USER'S MANUAL & ORDER FORM
  116. --------------------------
  117. To View or Print the order form, move to the far right, select the
  118. UTILITIES menu and press [ENTER]. Then using the Down Arrow key, select
  119. the "Order Form" option and press [ENTER]. You will be able to view the
  120. order form before you print it. Alternately, you can print it from
  121. outside the program, from the DOS command line. Just change to the
  122. directory in which the ORDER.TXT file resides. Then enter the following
  123. command:

  125.         COPY ORDER.TXT PRN
  126.  
  127. The User's Manual is included in a file called MANUAL.TXT.  It can also
  128. be printed either from the menu option, or from the DOS command line. To
  129. print it from DOS, change to the directory in which the MANUAL.TXT file
  130. resides. Then enter the following command to print the manual:

  132.         COPY MANUAL.TXT PRN
  133.  
  134. To View or Print the manual from within the program, move to the far
  135. right, select the UTILITIES menu and press [ENTER]. Then using the Down
  136. Arrow key, select the "User's Manual" option and press [ENTER].  You will
  137. be able to view the manual on screen before you print it.

  139. PROFESSIONAL CARRIER IS SHAREWARE!

  229. ===== Installation =====================================

  231. INSTALLATION
  232. ------------
  233. The installation utility provided (INSTALL.EXE) will install Professional
  234. Carrier on your hard disk drive, and will also check to see that your
  235. system meets all of the program requirements. Simply insert the
  236. registered version disk (Disk #1 if there are 2 disks) into your floppy
  237. disk drive, type A:INSTALL (or B:INSTALL), and press the [ENTER] key.
  238.  
  239. IF: you have been using a previous version of *THIS* product, you should
  240.     install this version into the *same* subdirectory that you installed
  241.     the previous version. This will allow this newer version to properly
  242.     update your existing files while still maintaining any existing data
  243.     that you have already entered.
  244.  
  245. IF: you have been using our Paper Route Ledger program, and are upgrading
  246.     to this program, you *SHOULD NOT* install this program into the same
  247.     sub- directory as your existing PRL files. You should install this
  248.     program into its own, separate subdirectory. See the "Upgrading
  249.     Instructions" contained in the manual, or supplied separately.

  251. Since we may have changed the "default" installation directory during our
  252. update process, be sure to check this carefully when the installation
  253. program asks you for the subdirectory to install to.

  257. The following system parameters should already be properly set from your
  258. evaluation of the shareware version of Professional Carrier. However,
  259. just as a reminder......

  261. You will need to check the FILES and BUFFERS settings in your CONFIG.SYS
  262. file (the install program will check this, and give you the opportunity
  263. to modify it you want to).  If you don't already have at least 40 FILES
  264. and 40 BUFFERS, please change these lines accordingly (or let the
  265. installation program do it for you):

  270. Also, your AUTOEXEC.BAT file must contain the following line:

  274. (the "F" value in the above SET command should always be "5" more than

  276. statement should be SET CLIPPER=F65)

  278. If you don't allow the install program to make any necessary
  279. modifications, then you will need to make the changes manually.

  281. Either way, if there are any changes made, you will need to reboot your
  282. system in order for these changes to take effect.

  310. at more than one location, or by more than one person, at any one time.
  311. Just as a book cannot be read by two different persons at the same time.
